With health coverage now being required by the law, many residents in Kentucky find that they have quite a few questions when it comes to getting coverage in their state. They have a good and successful program set up called Kynect, which allows people to search for coverage, compare plans, and purchase their healthcare. The following are some of the most common questions asked regarding the system.

When Does the Open Enrollment Take Place?

Open enrollment begins on November 1 and goes through January 31. You will need to search for your plan and then enroll between these dates. They do have special enrollment options available throughout the year, but many people will not qualify for this type of enrollment. Generally, only those who already have insurance and have a plan that’s ending within 60 days will qualify.

I Can’t Afford Coverage – What Can I Do?

Quite a few families have trouble when it comes to affording health coverage. Fortunately, there are a number of options that can help eliminate the cost, or at least reduce it. Some families may be able to qualify for Medicaid or for KCHIP for their children. Even if they do not qualify for these programs, they could still qualify for payment assistance. To determine whether you qualify, you will need to go through a prescreening program offered on the Kynect.ky.gov site. You will answer a few financial questions and then be notified of whether you qualify for any type of assistance.

How Can I Submit an Application?

You have several options when it comes to applying. You can send in a paper application, or you could apply online through your computer or even through your mobile device with their app. They suggest filling out the information online, as it tends to be quite a bit faster, and easier. You will be able to get real time results as well.

Additionally, the paper application will only see if you are eligible for programs. You will still be required to go online to choose your plan. When you start out with the online option, you can complete the process all at once. If you do not have a computer, you can call their customer service at 1-855-4kynect to speak with a representative who can help you. You could also get help from an insurance agent.

What Information Do I Need to Provide?

When you are applying for coverage, you will need to provide a substantial amount of information. This includes your contact information, ID (such as your Social Security card or driver’s license. You also need to include household information including the names, SSNs, and dates of birth of all of the people who live in the house. If you are married, you will need to provide proof of marriage.

You have to include proof of income, expenses information, work information, and information on your current insurance if you have any. Kynect.ky.gov provides a checklist that you can use to make sure that you have all of the information and documents required for applying.

Can They Deny Coverage?

One of the great benefits of the new federal system is that you will not be denied for your coverage based on an existing condition. Anyone will be able to get coverage. In addition, they will not be able to cancel your coverage because of a condition.
