Federal law requires that the majority of people have health insurance coverage. Those who do not are required to pay a penalty. In 2016, this penalty will be $695 per person, and $347.50 per child, or 2.5% of your annual income. They choose whichever is greater to use as the penalty, so it is important that individuals and families choose a healthcare plan.

What Is Kynect?

Kynect is Kentucky’s program to help residents obtain healthcare, and it has proven to be quite successful in the state. Since the inception of the program, hundreds of thousands of individuals and families in the state of Kentucky have been enrolled and now have health insurance.

Financial Assistance

Some people may be able to qualify for help paying for their healthcare costs. They may qualify for KCHIP, Medicaid, or other types of assistance for their insurance. In order to get financial assistance, the applicant will need to answer several questions. They do not keep any of the information stored, and the process is entirely secure. Currently, a family of four that makes up to $33,465 per year can still qualify for Medicaid. Your family of four could make up to $95,400 per year and still qualify for insurance savings. To determine whether your family will qualify for financial assistance to pay for healthcare, you can contact Kynect.

Changing the Insurance Plan, or Keeping It

Those who are already enrolled in Kynect will be able to change their plan if they choose. As there are more insurance companies working with the system in 2016, families can look for other plans that may better fit their needs during the enrollment period. They may also find a plan that will be more affordable. Those who do not want to change plans will simply have their current plan renewed automatically.

When Is Enrollment?

Open enrollment for Kynect is from November 1 through January 31st. However, they will allow people to enroll during other times of the year if they qualify. Keep in mind that the number of programs they will allow people to enroll in during the rest of the year is limited. To determine whether you will or will not qualify, you will need to contact the healthcare connection, as they will make the determination.

What Does the Enrollment Entail?

One of the benefits of using the Kynect system is that you will only have a single application to fill out. They make it as easy as possible to find and choose the plan that is best suited for you and your family. You can check the services offered through the plan, as well as the benefits, the quality, and the price. They have a long list of insurance providers that is set to get even larger.

They also have a mobile app, so users will be able to fill out their application from their mobile device. The entire process can be completed through the phone’s app. You will even be able to contact someone to help you if needed.

Kynect is a robust program with a number of features and options to help as many individuals and families as possible in KY. Check out what they have to offer so you can find a plan that will work well for your needs.
